Ryan Garcia, Haney Fight Back in Blood

Garcia, Haney Down Multiple Times in Thrill

Garcia Wins by Majority Decision

In a stunning upset, Ryan Garcia scored an action-packed 12-round majority decision over WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

Garcia, a 23-year-old lightweight superstar, knocked Haney down three times en route to the victory. Haney, making his first title defense, was down in rounds seven, 10, and 11. Garcia was also deducted a point for hitting on the break in round seven. Garcia was down in rounds two and seven.

Garcia's victory returned him to the top of boxing's food chain after a tumultuous time. The rising star had spent the last three months leaving analysts and pundits far more concerned for his personal well-being than impressed. But against all odds, Garcia put together a gutsy performance to pull off the upset.

The fight was a back-and-forth affair, with both fighters showing plenty of heart and determination. Garcia was the aggressor early on, but Haney began to take control of the fight in the middle rounds. Garcia rallied back in the late rounds, however, and landed the decisive blows.

The victory is a major boost for Garcia's career. He is now the WBC interim lightweight champion and is in position to challenge for a world title. Haney, meanwhile, will have to regroup after suffering his first professional loss.
