Russian Register Welcomes Industrys Arctic And Offshore Growth

Russian Register welcomes industry’s Arctic and offshore growth

Industry growth requires more Arctic-ready vessels

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) is responding to growth in Arctic and offshore projects with a more comprehensive service offering to support shipyards. As industry professionals gather at the 2023 Arctic Shipping and Offshore Congress, RMRS members will be on hand, showcasing their impressive track record in supporting vessel construction, design and compliance in these demanding environments.

Arctic shipping up 50%

The Arctic’s Northern Sea Route is increasingly busy with shipping traffic projected to rise 50% by 2030. In 2022, 344 vessels sailed the route, up 30% on 2021. This trend is driven by the growing accessibility of the Arctic due to melting ice and the potential for more oil and gas exploration in its icy waters. The Register boasts 40 years of experience with Arctic vessel construction and operation, so it is ideally placed to help shipyards meet the technical challenges of shipbuilding for these extreme conditions.

RMRS classified vessels sail the world

RMRS’s services help ensure the safety of Arctic and offshore shipping. Shipowners across 47 countries trust RMRS to maintain an active fleet of over 3,000 seaborne vessels. Its classification activity also goes beyond Russian borders, including in Norway, Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, UAE, Oman, Egypt and Bangladesh.

RMRS working with industry on safer, smarter ships

As well as supporting the safety and compliance of Arctic and offshore commercial shipping, RMRS also has a robust research and consulting function to help drive innovation. Through collaboration with research institutes and universities, RMRS is working to create more intelligent, safer, and environmentally friendly vessels.

RMRS embraces the future of Arctic shipping

RMRS is preparing for the growth in Arctic and offshore projects in several ways. It is building teams to handle the workload and has introduced new digital services to streamline processes. RMRS is confident that its expertise and commitment to Arctic operations will help drive best practice across the industry.
